Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso hit the car. Spaniard has a broken jaw
On Thursday evening, February 11, extremely unpleasant news came about two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard continued to actively prepare for his return to the World Cup after a two-year hiatus and, as part of this preparation, conducted cycling training in Switzerland, including riding on public roads. It all ended in an accident.
No details are known about the accident - except that Alonso collided with a car and that it was not without consequences. From the scene of the accident, Fernando was sent to the hospital.
According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the first X-rays did not give a definite answer as to what damage Alonso received, but doctors do not rule out one or more fractures. The BBC, for its part, clarifies that Fernando's face could have suffered the most: the Spaniard has a broken jaw.
The press service of the team of Alonso "Alpin" has issued an official statement, which says that team Alpin confirms that Fernando Alonso was involved in a road accident while cycling in Switzerland. Fernando is completely conscious and awaits further medical checks today. Team Alpin will not make any further announcements in the near future. The next updates will follow on Friday morning.
As the BBC clarifies, most likely, Alonso is sent to Bern, where a doctor specializing in jaw injuries works in one of the hospitals.
The pre-season tests will take place on March 12-14 and the first Grand Prix in Bahrain will take place on March 28. Now there is a risk that the Spaniard will miss the start of the season.
